Update

So I just realized it's been quite a long time since I posted and even though nothing to big happened I better give a quick update. Well I'm sure everyone knows I took a trip back to Utah about three weeks ago for Mindy and Matt's wedding the to hang out with the family. The whole trip was a blast and as sad as I was to leave I was happy to be home with Dave again. The only not so fun thing was a newly discovered aversion to flying. I found I get very sick on planes and was ill for two days following. Other than that everything out here has been going along nicely. I was made a manager at work and Dave has started working the many awful hours everyone warned me about. In three days (sun, mon, tues) he will have worked a full 40 hours and only has one day off the rest of this month. A new couple moved into our apartment complex and we were happily suprised to discover that they are LDS so now we have church buddies to hang out with! Well that's all I can think to tell I miss everyone but we're having plenty of fun out here!

Food got the best of us!

So for our second installment of Man V Food we went to Quaker Steak and lube for my birthday dinner. We started out with the second two hottest wing flavor and some delish BBQ ribs. The wings were probably the best ever. We then ordered the Atomic hot wings. The waitress brought out the release forms that we actually hat to sign before they could bring them out! We then got the measly 5 wings looking very innocent in their cute egg carton dish. Being the wimp I am I made Dave try them first and he got through 2 bites without appearing affected so I figured it was my turn. I took one bite and about died. 15 Min. and 2 glasses of water later I conviced myself it wasnt so bad and took one more bite. This one almost made me cry. Only after 2 giant glasses of milk, multiple ice cubes and another 15 min was I actually able to breathe again. Funny enough all the liquid served to negate the goodness of the original dinner by making me severely nauseus. Despite getting sick it was a wonderful birthday because I actually got to see my husband :D

Man v Food

So it's 11:00 at night and Dave and I are watching the Man v. Food show on the travel channel. Watching all the good food made us extremely hungry so we decide to do our own Man v. Food adventure. We looked up where this guy went when he was in Pittsburgh (Quaker Steak and Lube and Primanti Brothers) and decided we were going to go for the Atomic hot wings challenge at Quaker where the hot wings are made with Habanero peppers and register 150,000 Scoville units (I dont really know what that means except hot) so at almost midnight we hop in the truck to challenge the food. Sadly the kitchen part of the resturant was closed. We went to plan B, the Primanti Brothers where they put french fries and coleslaw on their sandwiches (also in the episode) and had a strangely delicious midnight dinner. But no worries there will be another episode of Strain v. Food when for my birthday Friday we will take on the Atomic hot wings. This is what the menu says about them! Notice that to order these you have to sign a release form! Wish us luck!

TRY OUR ATOMIC WINGS*
EXTREMELY HOT: CAUTION 150,000 SHU
One bite will set your pores a steamin’, ears a hummin’ and temples
a throbbin,’ served with jalapeƱos to cool your palate.
*You must sign a release form!

New Ward

Man can I just say how amazing the church is! We went to our new ward for the first time today and of course everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. It was so comforting to go to church out here where everything feels so different and have it be just like home. One of the family's we met (the Kronks) invited us over for dinner and we had a big Sunday BBQ with their family and a few others from the ward and it was so fun. After a big meal and lots of fun conversation we sat around and played spades for an hour just like at all the Snelgrove parties. They all had very helpful tips on where I could find a job too! Today was a great help to my recent stress levels and i'm actually starting to recognize the streets around our house! Progress!

Pittsburgh

We've been in Pittsburgh for a few weeks now and there are a few things that are still really strange to me. The way the city is layed out is still unbelievably confusing. There is no order or pattern to the random streets and finding anything is almost impossible without a GPS. Not a single street is named with north, south, east or west, so you have to memorize all the names to find your way anywhere. So far i only remember Carson street. The humidity out here is strange too, but not like I expected, mostly I just feel sticky everytime i walk outside!

I'm still searching for a job and not having very good luck. If anyone has any advice i'd be glad to hear it! There aren't any pools near our house and i'm having a hard time figuring out how to find a job in a city this big! Dave starts for real next monday! Thankfully his first rotation isn't going to be to hard so he'll still be able to come home every now and then :)

We went to church last sunday and found out which ward we're in (Pittsburgh 6th) so this sunday we'll actually get to meet our other ward members. Hopefully they can help with the job hunt! Everything else has just been normal and oddly life doesn't feel a whole lot different from before! We're just out here having a good time and enjoying each other!

Moving across the country

Since i'm no longer in Utah and can't keep up with everyone as much I decided to start a blog so everyone can still know what's going on! I'll try to keep everyone posted on how life all the way across the country is!

Well as of today i've officially been married for 6 days and I must say it's pretty fantastic, even though we've spent the whole time moving. The day after the wedding we packed up all my things and headed out of Utah for good. It was quite sad. Driving through Colorado however was gorgeous! We stopped the first night in Denver and drove 15 hours the next day through Kansas, Ohio, and Illinois. It was the LONGEST drive ever and everything was green and flat! I'm completely helpless out here and can't tell North to save my life. There are no mountains anywhere!!! Just millions of trees and bridges! Saturday we made it through Indiana, West Virginia and finnaly home to Pennsylvania. Crazy. After the GPS got us lost trying to find our new home we finally got all of my stuff dumped in the living room and quickly crashed for the night.

Bright and early sunday morning we packed up and headed out again for a 5 hour drive to Philadelphia (which included my first ever toll road) and started packing up all of daves things. Monday we loaded everything up and then it started raining, and boy did it rain. It was the coolest rain storm! It only lasted about 45 Min but if you ran across the street you were completely drenched. I've never seen rain drops that big in my life! We got back to Pittsburgh around 2 in the morning and quickly unloaded.

So Dave had his first day of orientation today, and it went well. Now all we have left to do is try to find a way to clean and organize this disaster of an apartment we are living in. Maybe in a few days we'll actually get a break! wish us luck!
